corporate rant
Perhaps you've heard of any one of THESE events involving stolen data potentially destroying the lives and livelyhoods of innocent people. Granted the damage is rarely so severe, but when identities are stolen it does lead at the very least to some extremely aggravating dealing with various corporations to get things set straight. It can also take a lot of time. It can also be made worse in that if the thief was not entirely malicious you can't even be told what was done because it violates the criminals privacy.
Got that? They stole your identity, destroyed your privacy but the government and corporations protect the criminal's privacy.
Companies lie claiming to destroy the data from your hardrive when they replace it under warranty, and the average person is reduced to a mindless worker drone that does their job, pays their taxes and has no official identity or recourse under the law.
This country was founded by Europeans with a warrior heritage. How does this relate? Way back and long ago when our ancestors were warriors they considered it an honor to fight and a death in battle was a noble one. These days noone seems capable of standing up and fighting. After all the enemy is not one person standing in front of you, it's some faceless corporation or some bureaucratic government entity that tells people this is how it is, this is the paper you'll sign making it ok.
Whatever happened to the common sense of taking care of your customer's interest so they'll return their business? It died with the mega corporations that don't know their customers faces, only their credit card numbers and shopping habits with a long list of everything they buy. They don't fear losing you as a customer because there's no reasonable alternative.
It's time to stop letting this go on. This country was once meant for the people. We've taken on a system of principles which encourage cowardice. Let the government handle it and protect us is the cry from a people who once fought a war to weaken the government, even as the government again takes their freedoms for their security without solving the problems and claiming that though they try they bear no responsibility and can not be held liable.
